This place.
Ever since I got home from Jerusalem, I've had this weird numbness about the whole experience. I would continually hear people in my group talk about the withdrawals they were experiencing, and I was frustrated at myself that I didn't feel that. I just felt like the whole thing was a big dream, and life continued on as it had before.
I was asked to speak in church this Sunday, and as I was preparing my talk, I found myself referencing my Old and New Testament notes, and my journal from the time I spent there. I found myself watching old video clips, and looking at pictures to help me come up with things to speak about.
HELLO. I miss that place like crazy. I miss the little world I lived in that was so simple. Everyone did the same things together, and everything was planned out for me. Everybody genuinely loved one another. Low drama. Life was easy in Jerusalem. Not that my life is hard now, or I don't enjoy the things I'm doing, but I realize that I purposely pushed the memories out of my brain temporarily because it was easier to return to normal life if I didn't miss Jerusalem. If I didn't miss my friends and teachers, the simplicity, and spirit that I often felt. I knew that others wouldn't understand the things I did there, and didn't really care to hear me babble on about Jerusalem Jerusalem Jerusalem and the Jerusalem crew...... bee da bah.
Seasons of life are interesting, and the decisions we make for certain reasons are also interesting. I'm having a withdrawal, sad eyes moment right now, but I've been enjoying this first week of school as well. I love the people I'm surrounded by, and there is so much potential in the air. It's possible to bring those experiences home, and implement the things I learned into my life in Provo. I can have that same love, spirit, and quality of friendship just as well here as I did there.
And that doesn't mean I can't still miss it.
